Pioneers journeyed the Great Wagon road to claim land in the virgin forests of Guilford County. This gave rise to the establishment of farms, trade towns, and eventually the two large prosperous cities of High Point and Greensboro. The text covers the Battle of Guilford Courthouse, the building of the NC railroad, the Civil War, the development of modern medical practices and a lot of movers and shakers that deserve to be remembered. The volume is illustrated with archival photographs from private collections and the North Carolina Archives. The modern photographs were made by Jim Dollar and Burke Salsi.
