Great Stories for Kids to Tell
Storytelling is as old as time. Telling a story does not mean memorizing one out of a book. Although reading a story in a book and then retelling is good practice for improving memory, writing, and reading. Standing up in front of a group to tell a story is very empowering.
Here's an old folktale. Read it once or twice. Put away the story and re-write it in your own words. Or, better yet, make a few notes and re-tell it to an audience in a few days. This activity will give students practice in writing - forming sentences - organizing thoughts - recalling- and gives them practical use of the English language.
