Featured Events
Welcome to featured events. As time passes and I take the time to develop my site, each month I'll feature a great event that's not to be missed. Most of the time, it will be an annual event that does not require admission.
Past Such Events:
You don't want to miss Christmas in the Valley at Bolick Pottery near Blowing Rock, North Carolina.
The Bolicks' and Calhoun's 11th annual Thanksgiving Wood Kiln Opening was held Saturday, November 26, 2005. Each year, the wood-fired kiln is opened and unloaded at 9:00 A.M. If you're late, you'll miss the excitement.
Items in the kiln include swirl vases, pitchers, face jugs, sculpted chickens, Santas, clay spirits, wizards, Rebekah pitchers, candlesticks and other traditional wares.
The shops are in the Bailey's Creek Community outside of Blowing Rock. Even if you don't buy a thing, you'll be welcomed. It's worth the trip for the beautiful mountain scenery and the festivities at the Bolicks'.
Guest potters, Roger Hicks and Ina Owens Bolick were also there with their pottery. A special display of Christmas red pottery was featured.
Get there: Bolick Pottery is 3 miles south of Blowing Rock and 14 miles north of Lenoir on Highway 321. Turn left onto Blackberry Road. You will see St. Marks Lutheran Church on the right if you are coming from Lenoir and on the left if you are coming from Blowing Rock. Take the steep road beside the church and follow the road. There will be signs. For additional information call 828-295-3862 or 828 - 295 5099.
