Among her most popular books is The Jack Tales containing the stories of the Hicks family of Banner Elk, NC. Now, the full story is told about the family in the just released The Life and Times of Ray Hicks Keeper of the Jack Tales. The famous Beech Mountain tales passed through generations through oral tradition since the 1700s. Salsi is pleased the stories were not transcribed, but were written down in the Hicks' home during hundreds of hours of interviews. This has made Salsi an authority on the life and times of Ray Hicks. First editions are considered collectors items and can be found on online auctions. The new book published by the University of Tennessee Press will be followed by a new Jack tale anothology for family reading.
